Upgrading PowerTicker

Although we’ve tried our darnedest to make PowerTicker as problem free as possible, we won’t pretend it’s perfect. But we will promise to periodically release upgrades to fix the problems that do come to light and to introduce new features.

In the meantime, we suggest you consult the Common Questions to read about some simple solutions to common problems.

To upgrade to the latest version of PowerTicker, download the installer for your computer system. These installers create a new PowerTicker folder and upgrade any other components that have changed. If you have already registered PowerTicker, the new version will automatically recognize your registration number.

Changes in version 2.5.4 (Second Edition) for Mac OS and Mac OS X
- We’ve updated the source file for Yahoo.com. Customers who have already upgraded to version 2.5.4 do not need to download the full installer again. PowerTicker should automatically download the new source, or they can download the necessary file from the Sources page.

Changes in version 2.5.4 for Mac OS and Mac OS X
- We fixed a problem that would cause PowerTicker to crash when you attempted to print your ledger.
- We fixed a problem that would cause PowerTicker to hang when you were no longer connected to the Internet. This primarily affected customers with dial-up connections.
- We fixed a problem with the way stock splits were being calculated in the Portfolio.
- We fixed the PowerTicker search function so that you can once again look up securities on the Yahoo and Globe and Mail websites. The search function on these websites had changed.
- We fixed the reporting of Volume and News from Swissquote. The format had changed on the Swissquote website.
- We fixed a problem where, in large stock reports under Mac OS, the tabs did not match the panel being displayed. This did not affect the Mac OS X version.

Changes in version 2.5.3 for Mac OS and Mac OS X
- We only released this version to our external beta testers. If you are running a copy of Version 2.5.3, you should upgrade to Version 2.5.4.

Changes in version 2.5.2 for Mac OS and Mac OS X
- This is the first release of PowerTicker 2.5 for Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9 and so brings the classic version of PowerTicker to the same level of functionality as the current version of PowerTicker for OS X. For a description of the new features, refer to the list for version 2.5 below.
- We fixed a problem with sorting within the Summary window. It was causing PowerTicker to crash, especially under OS X 10.2 (Jaguar).
- We improved the support for Canadian mutual funds through iMoney.
- We fixed look-ups and the news function under Quicken.
- We fixed the news function under Quote.com.

Changes in version 2.5.1 for Mac OS X
- We fixed a problem that prevented the access of currency information through AppleScript.
- We created a new source file for Canoe to address changes that site made to their system for tracking Canadian mutual funds.
- We fixed the source file for Yahoo sites. News headlines from Yahoo UK are now retrieved properly, and PowerTicker is now displaying all values on the detailed stock reports.
- We fixed a problem some customers were having using PowerTicker through a proxy server.
- Choosing the Hong Kong stock exchange brought up India instead. This has been fixed.

Changes in version 2.5 for Mac OS X and Windows
- We added a large number of stock exchanges to the list of exchanges you can track. They are in Europe: Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Lisbon, Vienna, and Virt-X; in Asia and Oceania: Bangkok, Bombay, Calcutta, Hong Kong, India (NSI), Jakarta, Korea, Kuala Lumpur, New Zealand, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Taiwan OTC; in South America: Buenos Aires, Caracas, Lima, Sao Paolo, and Santiago; and in the Middle East: Tel Aviv.
- We added the currencies required to support these exchanges.
- We added quick links from the Tools button to Edgar reports and graphs for American stocks and SEDAR reports for Canadian stocks.
- We added a Quick Quote feature which allows you to quickly look up the value for a stock without having to add it to your list of stocks.
- We added a Currency Converter which allows you to quickly convert any amount of money from one currency to another.
- We redesigned the e-mail alert feature so that it now functions independently of your e-mail application.
- We implemented the auto-updating of source files. Now, whenever you start PowerTicker, it verifies that all your sources are up to date and downloads any new source files you need. These small files contain the information required to parse the web pages from which PowerTicker retrieves stock quotes.
- We added contextual menus to the summary window and the individual stock reports.
- We added a new preference to portfolios so that, if you have sold all your shares in a company, it no longer appears in the portfolio display.
- We changed references to the Toronto Stock Exchange to reflect their recent amalgamation with CDNX. The old TSE 300 is now known as the S&P/TSX Composite Index, and we've changed this default in the Indexes dialog.
- We expanded the layout of the Summary to optionally include the details and the news headlines for any security you select. To change your display, click on the icons at the bottom right of the display.
- During an update, a dot to the left of the company name in the Summary now indicates which securities are still in the process of being updated. These indicators disappear as each update is received. We also added an update button to the Summary window.
- We added contextual menus to the stock reports. Control-clicking anywhere in the report brings up a menu that combines the functionality of the tool menu and the other buttons on the large stock report. This gives you quick access to these functions from the small and medium report formats where the buttons are not visible.
- We added alerts on currency exchange rates.
- We added the ability to print portfolios, ledgers, and the Summary window.
- You can now drag individual entries from the Summary window to any text editor or spreadsheet application. The selection is formatted as tab-delimited text.
- Base Currency has been moved to the Portfolio Settings. Once you set the Base Currency for a Portfolio and begin to fill out the ledger, you should not change the base currency without then correcting each ledger entry to reflect the new Base Currency.
- Each large report window now remembers which tab you last chose.
- If you set the background color of stock reports to white, PowerTicker displays this as the standard OS X transparent pinstripe pattern.
